My life’s journey took me on a long, winding path, eventually bringing me to my career as a freelance writer/editor. After working in the business world for a number of years, I decided to supplement my BA degree from Duquesne University with a teaching certification, which took me through several years in the education department at St. Vincent College. Stopping a couple of classes short of completing the certification requirements, I realized that working in the classroom wasn’t for me. Shortly thereafter, I decided to take my writing seriously and became involved in a local writers’ group. Then I started a nonprofit organization to bring poetry readings into my region. During that time, I also homeschooled my son for three years and my daughter for one year. I was one busy person! Finally, I took the brave leap into freelancing. I have never regretted the decision.
My services include original writing, manuscript development, content editing, copy editing, proofreading, research and interviewing, and market analysis. I generate clear, concise, accessible prose. As an editor, I impose stylistic consistency, grammatical structure, and factual accuracy on a manuscript. My experience over the past ten years ranges from work with educational materials, fiction and nonfiction, to business documents.
In my educational writing and editing projects, I especially enjoy creating activities that draw on the multiple types of intelligence and appeal to students with diverse skill levels and aptitudes.
I’ve copyedited and content edited fiction and nonfiction books on subjects that include the life of Ellen Hardin Walworth (founding member of the Daughters of the Amercan Revolution), the pursuit of happiness, detective mysteries, and a post-WWII thriller. I’ve written and edited business/professional documents such as 501(c)(3) applications, articles of incorporation, bylaws, press releases, proposals, letters, grant applications, and media ads.
In addition, I write poetry, children’s literature, essays, business materials, and newspaper and magazine articles. While I readily admit that poetry is my passion, the other work pays the bills!
